The legal guideline for rent increase this year is 2%. Homestead wants to raise the rent 3%, claiming they had capital expenditures that affect all units.
A small group of tenants has been meeting on your behalf to dig into this claim. We have found what we believe to be several gaps, and will be taking these to the hearing at the end of January, to fight for a rent reduction. Please watch for a small survey being delivered to your door sometime this weekend. Read and complete the survey, checking off your choice of what you would like us to fight for, then return the ballot to the unit indicated on or before next Saturday to make your voice heard.
We will be taking these ballots with us to show Homestead that we are not afraid to stand together against what we believe to be unfair rent increases.
We are hopeful that even if we end up paying part of the proposed extra 1%, we will at least show our landlord that we are organized and aware, so that they don't try to pull this sort of nonsense in the future!!
